Shadow Over Normoth is a good old fashioned old school fixed camera survival horror game where you battle sea monsters in the strange seaside town of Normoth.
Created by Warkus (creator of Oceanwork and Ghost Study) for the HPS1 Summer of Shivers game jam, Shadow Over Normoth is a love letter to the glory days of the PS1 era survival horror game. It draws inspiration from Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and features tank controls, fixed camera viewpoints and retro PS1 styled visuals.
In the Shadow Over Normoth you find yourself trapped in the seaside town of Normoth, a strange place that appears to be overrun with fish monsters and other strange creatures from the depths. As you explore you’ll scavenge weapons, search for useful objects, discover secrets, fight monsters and get to the bottom of what’s really going on on the island.
Taking around 40 minutes to play through, it’s a great little homage to classic PS1 era survival horror games. The seaside setting is a great location, it nails the PS1’s visual style, the bosses put up a good fight and there are some great little nods to Resident Evil and Silent Hill throughout. Highly recommended.
