Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is a squad based stealth action game set in Feudal Japan with strategic real time warfare reminiscent of the Commandos series as you command a team of five specialists in missions filled with espionage, sabotage and assassination.
We first featured Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun back in May, during the Beta Sign Up stage, but in preparation for release on December 6th the devs have released a Beta Demo for all to play, and the excellent blend of stealth and tactical combat really doesn’t disappoint. In the game you command an elite team of warriors, each with their own specific skills – a stealthy ninja, a powerful samurai, a deadly sniper, a trap/decoy specialist and a master of disguise.
Due to the fact that you’re vastly outnumbered, full frontal assaults are really not a viable option. Instead you need to plan assaults, utilizing the abilities of each of the specialists and using the environment to lay ambushes, sneak into enemy camps and complete their objectives.
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun impresses with its stylish isometric visual design, and cleverly constructed puzzle-like levels that allow you to tackle enemies and obstacles in a variety of different ways. Commandos-style tactical stealth action games seem to of died out in recent years, but Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun looks set to bring it back to life with a bang (obviously a very stealthy bang that your enemies won’t hear). Superb squad-based strategic stealth action that we highly recommend checking out.
