Skyjacker: We Own The Skies is an intriguing blend of Pokemon GO-esque augmented reality and airplane hijacking in which you use your phone to find real-time flights overhead and hijack them from other players.
Skyjacker: We Own The Skies uses augmented reality and real-world flight data to allow you to identify, track and capture aircraft flying overhead (in the game obviously, not in real life). In the game you find planes overhead in your radar then flip the phone into a horizontal position to enter binocular-mode which allows you to spot and hijack them. You’ll earn cash for the aircraft that you capture which you can use to hire spotters and sidekicks, while also dealing with attacks from other skyjackers and federal agents.
There are over 300 types of aircraft to capture and you can even hijack airports which will earn you more rewards. It’s an interesting concept that offers one of the most inventive uses for augmented reality gaming we’ve seen so far. It might be best to not use the app while you’re actually in an airport or on a plane though as it’s a sure-fire way to get picked up by airport security!
