Sonic The Hedgehog: Great Value is a very silly fan made Sonic game where Sonic is every bit the musclebound mutant that’s been shown in the Sonic Movie promotional art.
Before we start, it’s worth noting that Sonic The Hedgehog: Great Value was created for RAGE (Really Amateur Games Expo), a yearly competition that’s all about making deliberately crappy Sonic games. Don’t expect Sonic The Hedgehog: Great Value to be a “good” game then, but it is a very funny one!
Created by 3DI70R, the same twisted genius behind Sonic Suggests, Sonic The Hedgehog: Great Value is essentially a very short Sonic Adventure-esque 3D adventure in a semi-functional open world with a musclebound Sonic character model based on the upcoming movie. Needless to say Sonic looks pretty weird with muscly legs and two separate eyes (though probably not as weird as he’ll look in the movie).
To fit with his human looking form, Sonic’s skills have seen a significant downgrade too – he’s not particularly fast, he can only jump a few feet high and his iconic spin move is now a crappy forward roll! In fact, Sonic is pretty much just a regular guy in a Sonic onesie, but maybe he’ll still be able to defeat the evil Dr. Robotnik.
Sure, Sonic The Hedgehog: Great Value is not a “good” game in any traditional sense of the word – but as soon as you see that ridiculous Sonic model then it’s guaranteed to make you smile. It’ll also be interesting to see how close it is to the real version when the movie comes out!
