Splinter Zone is a strange randomised Megaman-esque action platformer in which you attempt to escape eternal punishment.
As in Megaman you can run, jump and shoot and must battle a variety of deadly enemies. You fight your way through an endless selection of randomly selected (not randomly generated) levels that seem to created to punish you. You have no idea who you are or why you are imprisoned in this eternal random hell. It’s up to you to perform as well as possible, blasting your way through levels and racking up as high a score as possible, or you can attempt to break the cycle of eternal punishment and attempt to figure out just what the hell is going on.
It’s still very early in development, so does have a few rough edges (such as the rather useless alternate weapons) but it ’s an interesting game that offers an oddly compelling experience. Challenging, punishing and intriguing random eternal action platforming.
