Stray Cat Crossing brings its’ own world to life through a strangely unique atmosphere that can only be described as cute and unsettling. In the demo, you’re immediately trapped in a mansion occupied by two extremely abstract characters whose expressions are literally two-faced.
The game plays like a dream (or nightmare) in a music box, filled with macabre artifacts and puzzles for you to solve. Without in-your-face references, this title draws influence from delightfully fantastic works such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Alice in Wonderland, and the cult-hit IB (for those familiar with the Yume Nikki circle of games). There’s already a mixed bag of odd yet strangely lovable characters at this point, one of which looks like a bulldog roast chicken with a baby head.
There’s enough in the demo to get you acquainted with what you can expect of the title, but by the looks of things, we’re going to be in for quite a treat as the game develops. It’s easy to tell already that this game world is going to bloom into something incredible, and there’s enough creativity behind it all to fill volumes to come.
