Street Uni X is a PS1 styled retro extreme sports game that plays like the classic Tony Hawk’s games, but swaps skateboards for unicycles!
Anyone who’s ever played a PS1 era Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding game will feel right at home with Street Uni X. Aside from the switch to unicycles it all feels fondly familiar to the Tony Hawk’s games before they went off the rails – even down to the retro visuals and cheesy skater rock soundtrack.
The Pre-Alpha demo build of Street Uni X features one skatepark and three playable characters, each with their own stats. In the skatepark you have two minutes to try and rack up as much points as possible and there are also Tony Hawk’s style challenges – such as collecting a letters that spell “TRICK” or grinding on pipes to open valves. The trick system and handling is also very similar to the Tony Hawk’s games, though the unicycle is a little more forgiving in what way you face when you land.
Street Uni X is so much of a homage to the classic Tony Hawk’s games that it does seem a little strange that they didn’t just go the whole hog and make it a skateboarding game (there would certainly be a market for it). Either way though, it’s a fun game that harkens back to the glory days of extreme sports games and proves that chaining together ridiculous stunts is just as fun as it ever was. Hop on for some extreme unicycling fun!
