Super Catboy is an old school 2D action platformer that draws inspiration from the 16-bit era as a gun-toting cat fights his way through a land filled with bad doggies.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer back in 2017, Super Catboy is a 90’s inspired side-scrolling action platformer that pits a lone cat against an army of dogs. It plays a little like a blend of Joe & Mac and Metal Slug, with you running, clawing and shooting your way through its charming side-scrolling levels.
You are armed with a gun, but ammo for it is limited so if you can get up close to your enemies and melee attack them with your claws then it’s beneficial (and more fun). The levels in the demo are fairly straight-forward but there are hidden collectibles to find and the train level shakes things up a bit.
Super Catboy isn’t going to revolutionise the genre, but it is a lot of fun and feels like a great homage to the 16-bit action platforming era. The pixel art animation is excellent, the gameplay nice and arcadey, and your little kitty hero is very cute. Definitely worth checking out if you’re a cat person or a dog person!
