Terraforge is a fun hero-based MMORPG trading card game currently being created by the developers over at DLK Studios in which you not only take part in strategic PvP battles, but can form a party and go exploring and plundering dungeons.
Terraforge has a lot of interesting aspects going on in such an early alpha. Firstly you have an Avatar, which acts as your champion throughout the match. This Avatar, depending on if you choose the Mage or Warrior base, has spells that gather resources over time that can prove very useful in battle. They also have to create Terra Stone, 5 different stones representing a different power, that allow you to play cards that match that Terra’s colour.
Along with these aspects you also have to monitor your Avatar’s health pool, as well as the Terra crystals (Mana stones) you get each turn. The crystals build up over time, starting with a single crystal at the start of a match but each turn you gain another crystal. These crystals and stones help you play both creatures and spells to help you put an end to the opposing Avatar.
The game board is set out a lot like traditional card games. You have a deck pile, graveyard and two positions for a minion to be placed (a total of 10 spots to be precise). The first row puts all creatures into attack formation allowing you to deal direct damage to the enemy avatar. While the second row puts them into defensive formation which in turn allows you to block incoming attacks from the enemy hero.
There is a lot going on with Terraforge, with beautiful spell and character animation, particle effects and deeply strategic card-based gameplay. The devs have just added the ability to build a deck of up to 40 cards allowing players to customize the way they play. They’re also continuing to work on the dungeon crawling aspect of the game which will allow players to explore dungeons on their own or party up with friends. It’s an impressive and ambitious trading card game that we can’t wait to see more of in the future.
