The Bookwalker features an inventive fuson of first person and isometric gameplay as you dive into books to find fictional objects – such as The One Ring, Oathkeeper, Excalibur or The Philosopher’s Stone.
Currently in development by Do My Best (creators of The Final Station) in The Bookwalker you take on the role of a Bookwalker – someone who is able to enter books, loot valuable fictional objects and bring them back to the real world to sell. The real world gameplay all takes place in first person, with you able to explore your workshop, craft items and select what books to dive into. When you dive into a book it then switches to an isometric viewpoint and you explore, loot objects, select dialog and solve puzzles using a point and click interface.
We checked out an earlier demo build of The Bookwalker a little over a year ago and it was a cleverly crafted adventure where you went in search of an Alice in Wonderland-esque “Drink Me” growth potion in a book called “The Story of Three Brothers”. You can dive in and out of the book as much as you like. When you come back to the real world you can use the items you found in the book to craft useful items (like a lockpick and crowbar) and you can also enter a shop-book (a book-shop?) to sell and buy items to aid you on your quest.
It’s a very clever concept with beautiful artwork, a fun sense of humor and some very innovative gameplay. Sign up for the Beta to see what treasures a good book can hold.
