The Captain is a wonderful pixel art point and click adventure with superb pixel art animation, a great soundtrack, intuitive puzzle design and a sense of humor that’s reminiscent of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
You play Captain Welmu – s space captain who was on a mission to mars when an anomaly transported him 100 light years away. Even if your ship travelled at its maximum speed it would take at least 75 years to get home, so it’ll be a long trip back.
There’s a bit of a Star Trek vibe around The Captain, with each new encounter promising to be a self contained mini-adventure with three possible endings, that will affect the overarching story as you try to make your way home. There are over 100 different characters to encounter on your journey, all of whom will have an affect on your story (and you’ll impact upon theirs). Your character will also evolve and age as you play through the game, with youalso able to upgrade your ship and tool up your character with different equipment.
As well as the obvious comparison to Star Trek, there are lots of nods to classic sci-fi adventures in The Captain – your spaceship is called the ‘Rama’, the conversations with your ship sound like something straight out of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and there’s even mention of Alderaan in the demo. It’s a fun game with a deliciously wicked sense of humor (the meat freezer incident in the demo is a particular highlight), intelligent puzzle design and an innovative story structure that we can’t wait to see more of. This sci-fi adventure is shaping up to be something special.

I played the game multiple times in order to get all the possible endings… It was awesome. The puzzles were super good, not too hard, not too easy. The graphics and lighting were really fresh. I definitely want to play a full version of this game.
One minor detail (SPOILER): “using” on the ladder after it’s plugged in should have the character use it and get to the top of the platform.
Awesome! Can’t wait for more.
