The Cub is a beautiful Jungle Book inspired Sci-Fi platforming adventure where a kid raised by wolves attempts to avoid capture by Martians.
Taking place in the same world as Golfclub Wasteland, the narrative of The Cub is a Sci-Fi re-imagining of The Jungle Book, where you are a kid who is left behind in an inhospitable Earth during an disease-based apocalypse. Humanity evacuated and fled to Mars, meanwhile you were brought up by wolves and managed to survive in the post-apocalyptic wilderness. However, one day you’re spotted by a scout team of humans (from Mars) and they start to hunt you down as they think you may contain a cure.
The gameplay in The Cub harkens back to classic 16-Bit platformers such as The Jungle Book, Aladdin and Lion King. It plays a lot better than those games though, with silky smooth animations, breathtaking set-pieces and varied level design. It still presents a nice challenge though and there are some cool secrets to discover if you stray from the beaten path.
The demo build of The Cub features three sample sections of levels and takes around 20 minutes to play through. The level of polish in the animation and environmental design is remarkable and it plays beautifully. There’s lots to discover as you make your way through the wastelands and the Golfclub Wasteland style radio station that plays throughout does a great job of immersing you in the world. Highly recommended.
