The Cycle is an intriguing new competitive multiplayer FPS that sees you attempting to complete quests during each 20 minute long match.
Currently in development by the team behind Spec Ops: The Line and Dreadnought, The Cycle is a competitive quest based FPS shooter set on the hostile alien planet of Fortuna III. Matches are roughly 20 minutes long due to the storms that regularly sweep the planet. Each match take place between 20 people and they are competitive, but players can form uneasy alliances to help complete contracts (quests).
The devs haven’t actually specified yet, but it’s likely that you win a match in The Cycle by earning the most cash from the quests you complete. Cash you earn in-game can be used to purchase a wide array of weapons and equipment on the black market during matches. You can also use credits to craft useful gear that they can take into the next match.
In a world where everyone and their dog is trying to jump on the Battle Royale bandwagon, it’s refreshing to see a multiplayer FPS that’s trying something genuinely new and groundbreaking. Quests look set to add a welcome layer of depth to the competitive FPS genre, making it more of a tactical experience than a twitch-reflex shooter, and the lush alien world of Fortuna III looks like a fascinating place to explore.
