The Darwin Project is a Battle Royale-esque third person survival combat game set in treacherous snow covered landscapes of Canada, with players tracking opponents, setting traps and hunting each other as they attempt to be the last player standing in an extreme Hunger Games-style reality show – where a player controlled director dictates certain events in the game world and Twitch Mixer viewers can even affect the game in interesting ways.
The Darwin Project doesn’t feature the scale of the groundbreaking PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, with battles between seven players on modest sized maps, but it does have some fun tricks up its sleeve. Each of the characters has unique skills and attributes and the ways the director can affect the game arena throughout the game is very intriguing. It’s still unclear how the audience participation in Mixer will work too, but hopefully it’ll be a little like in Hunger Games, with viewers able to send in care packages with weapons and equipment for their favourite players.
It’s a promising game, and is being developed by veterans who’ve worked on the Assassins Creed franchise and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It looks set to offer a unique and intense take on the Battle Royale genre in which the smartest (not necessarily the fittest) will stand the best chances of survival. Sign up now for a chance to prove your worth in this frostbitten landscape!
