The Fridge Is Red is a first person psychological horror anthology game where you play through surreal episodes of terror that involve a demonic red refrigerator.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer when it was a game jam prototype, The Fridge Is Red is a collection of horror stories inspired by analogue horror of the PS1 era. In the game you’ll be able to play through each standalone episode, each of which explores a different theme and plays with different gameplay ideas.
The current build of The Fridge Is Red features two episodes, one which sees you trying to escape from a demonic fridge in a basement and one where you enter an elevator that has some serious technical issues. The first episode is pretty much a more polished version of the game jam build and is still pretty freaky, but the second episode is brand new and is much longer. It takes some pretty wild twists along the way and there’s some cleverly implemented puzzles to solve too.
If the first two episodes of The Fridge Is Red are anything to go by then it’s going to be one hell of an anthology. It delivers real psychological terror rather than relying on jump scares and as different as each episode is, it still feels like a cohesive experience – like episodes of Creepshow, but hosted by a big red fridge. Highly recommended.
