The Last Utopi is a PS1 styled Sci-Fi horror game set in an IKEA style furniture store which is ground zero for a deadly alien organism that’s left Earth uninhabitable.
Created for the Haunted PS1 Summer of Screams game jam, in The Last Utopi you hop into a hazmat suit and set out to investigate a Sweedish furniture store called Utopi (essentially an off brand IKEA). It’s thought to be the first infection site of an alien organism that has ravaged the planet and forced mankind to flee the Earth.
As you explore the Utopi store you will examine organisms you find, solve a few puzzles and search for information on how the store became infected in the first place. You’ll then be able to relay back to the founder of the colony in space where the remnants of humanity now live.
Taking around 20 minutes to play through, the ending feels a little more like it was done for twist value rather than making any narrative sense, but it’s a fun little adventure with a great sense of atmosphere and a novel setting. The pulsating alien organisms are a sight to behold and exploring a discount Swedish furniture store is a horrifying experience in itself!
