The Luminist is a third person action adventure where you use stealth, speed and an oil-filled grenade launcher to escape a long forgotten subterranean town that’s filled with deadly monsters.
In The Luminist you take on the role of Dietrich, a German mineworker who finds himself trapped deep within a phospholuminescent oil mine after an accident. As you explore the forgotten depths of the mine it soon becomes apparent that you’re not alone down there – it’s inhabited by bloodthirsty monsters that’ll rip you to shreds if they catch you. You’ll need to try to sneak past them, out-run them or blast them with your cobbled together oil-based grenade launcher.
The combat in The Luminist does feel very clumsy at times and some of the world design feels a little generic, but it’s got a great sense of atmosphere, the audio design is very well done and the final section of the game really gets the adrenaline pumping. It could probably do with a bit less combat, but on the whole it’s a dark and dangerous cavernous adventure well worth delving into.
