Toasty is a wonderfully whimsical pixel art action RPG adventure that follows a marshmallow knight as he discovers the truth about his origins and prevents a powerful evil from corrupting the land of Geldia.
The gameplay in Toasty draws inspiration from the classic top-down Zelda games, with you able to freely wander around an open world, chat to NPCs, solve puzzles, battle monsters, collect loot and complete quests. The visuals are more cartoony and the world is a whole lot sillier than in Link’s adventures though – so, for instance your first conversation is with a hotdog in a bun, the local barmaid is a demon and you have a hippo buddy who has a pet lawnmower.
The Toasty demo build takes around 20 minutes to play through and contains a nice mix of exploration, humor, puzzles and combat. The combat is a little on the easy side at the moment, but other than that it’s shaping up to be a fantastic game. The world is packed with great little details and there’s lots of delightfully quirky characters to talk to. A particularly nice touch is that it doesn’t take place in a pristine fantasy world – everything is a little bit crappy and run down, making for a much more interesting experience. Toasty is a Zelda-like action RPG adventure, but it’s also going to be quite unlike any of Link’s adventures!
