UnderMine is a beautifully animated top-down pixel art roguelike action adventure with RPG elements where a poor peasant goes searching for riches in a minster-filled goldmine.
The roguelike dungeon crawling gameplay of UnderMine aims to combine the procedurally generated mayhem of the likes of The Binding of Isaac and Dead Cells, with the exploration and discovery found in The Legend of Zelda and Hyper Light Drifter, and a character progression inspired by Rogue Legacy. Those are some serious roguelike/RPG heavy hitters and early impressions would certainly suggest UnderMine could easily to join their ranks.
In UnderMine you take on the role of a poor peasant who is cast into the mine by their boss to labour away and gather riches, whilst also taking care of the many monsters that wish to rip you to shreds. Gameplay-wise it most resembles The Binding of Isaac, with you exploring procedurally generated dungeons filled with secrets, traps, monster-filled kill rooms, loot, upgrades and big boss fights. Your peasants will die, but as in Rogue Legacy there’s an endless line of successors that you can play as and you’ll be able to pass on permanent upgrades and abilities to the next one.
It’s a great looking game, with high quality pixel art animation, challenging roguelike dungeon crawling gameplay and lots of secrets and loot to discover as you explore the mines. The Alpha is due to start early next month so sign up to see if you can strike gold (and lots of monsters) in the depths of UnderMine.
