Victory Heat Rally is a retro arcade racer that draws inspiration from classic Sega classics as you powerslide chunky little cars at break-neck speeds around twisty tracks.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer Back in March, Victory Heat Rally is a retro arcade racer with an art style and gameplay inspired by classic Sega Super Scaler engine games such as Hang-On and OutRun. It’s quite a bit faster than those arcade classics though and you really have to master the art of the powerslide to earn a podium spot.
The new Kickstarter build of Victory Heat Rally features a time trial mode and an arcade mode which sees you embarking on a three race championship set on three unique tracks. There are two cars to choose from, each with their own unique stats and drivers, and you can even choose from a variety of pain-jobs to kit them out with. It’s a lot of fun and it’s surprisingly challenging, with you really having to master the Mario Kart-esque power-slide boost technique to even keep up with the opposition.
Victory Heat Rally does a great job of recreating a little classic arcade racing nostalgia, while also feeling like a fun and fresh modern game. The sprite work is fantastic, the cars feel great, the soundtrack is banging and the sense of speed is incredible. It feels like the sort of game Sega would make if they still made arcade racing games.
