Virtual Battlegrounds plans to recreate the PUBG-style Battle Royale experience in virtual reality, offering multiplayer last man standing shooter action on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift!
Currently in develpoment by a team founded by the creators of Blacksea Odyssey and Hollow, Virtual Battlegrounds looks set to offer PlayerUnknown’s Battlegorunds style survival shooter thrills in VR. As in PUBG, matches will start by jumping out of an aircraft and parachuting down into a large modern day island wasteland. From there you’ll have to scavenge weapons and equipment, then fight for your survival as you attempt to be the last one standing. Quite how they’re tackling the nausea inducing issue of first person movement remains to be seen, but a Sonic VR Walk-O-Motion style of movement would probably work well.
It’s an ambitious project and the last development video released does seem to suffer from a few optimization issues (which is understandable considering the scope of the project), but it shows a lot of promise. Parachuting into the gameworld looks far more fun in VR and fighting for your survival will make for a far more intense experience when you’re fully immersed in the game world.
