Walaber’s Pro Gymnast is a great new QWOP-like gymnastics game where you use your momentum to pull to pull off some remarkable feats of aerial agility across its increasingly challenging levels.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer during the closed Alpha Sign Up, Walaber’s Pro Gymnast is a physics based gymnastics game that gives you complete control of your gymnast’s body – for better or for worse! You can control your arms with the left analog stick and your legs with the right analog stick, you can tuck in your arms and your legs with LT and RT, you can slow down time with LB and you can release your grip with RB.
The current Alpha build of Walaber’s Pro Gymnast is very early in development and doesn’t have any sound yet, but features 3 tutorial levels, 13 normal levels, 2 arena levels and a level editor to create your own levels in. It’s quite easy to get to grips with the basics of your movement, with you able to spin and aim your jumps with reasonable precision from standard stationary poles. Things get a lot tougher when swings, ropes, trampolines, detached bars and other more challenging pieces of gymnastic equipment are introduced though. There are also bonus collectables that you can try to grab, but in the later levels you’ll be happy just to reach the finish in one piece!
It’s clearly still early in development and lacking a lot of polish, but the core gameplay of Walaber’s Pro Gymnast is already great fun. You have a lot of control over your gymnast’s movements and there’s a great sense of achievement to be had from pulling off the perfect (or extremely lucky) transfer. Even if you’re not successful, there’s plenty of fun to be had from watching your many fails play out too! Highly recommended.
