Warface, the popular free-to-play massively multiplayer shooter from Crytek (creators of Far Cry and Crysis), is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, complete with a variety of diverse game modes, including (yup, you guessed it) Battle Royale!
Warface has changed a lot since it’s original release in 2013 – what was a fairly basic multiplayer FPS experience has evolved into a fully fleshed out multiplayer shooter. It features four character classes (Rifleman, Sniper, Engineer and Medic), two playable factions, story-driven PvE missions, a wide selection of weapons and attachments, online co-op, eight different PvP game modes and over fifty maps to do battle on. The game modes include a mixture of traditional modes such as team deathmatch and domination, as well more unique modes such as Blitz which features 90 second long rounds, as well the now obligatory Battle Royale mode.
As you’d expect from Crytek, it looks great and the combat (in the PC version) is great fun. The main bugbear with the PC version is that it has too much ‘pay-to-win”. Hopefully the devs balance things better for the console release, but even if they don’t it doesn’t really affect the Battle Royale mode. There’s no info yet on exactly when Warface is releasing on consoles, but it seems to be soon, with players able to sign up now to be notified when the closed beta starts and earn a free gift (a gun and some attachments) for their troubles.
Important Note: The Warface website doesn’t technically say it’s a Beta Sign up, instead it says you can sign up to earn a free gift and “be the first to learn about the start of the Closed Beta”. It’s unclear whether that means you’re automatically signed up for the Beta, but at the very least you’ll be notified when you can sign up (and you get a cool free gun).
