Winkeltje is a fast paced and very addictive shop simulation game in which you build, decorate and run a your own medieval shop.
Currently in development by Sassybot (creators of the excellent Fragments of Him), Winkeltje (dutch for “shop”) is an easily accessible and very addictive shop simulation game that puts you in charge of your own medieval shop. You start with a simple little shack, which you can furnish and sell your goods in. The cash you earn can then be used to buy more goods, pay off your loan, expand your shop and buy fancier furnishings, decorations and crafting stations.
The crafting stations can be used to make your own clothes and weapons to sell. This not only allows you to spend less on the goods you sell, but will also level up your crafting skills, allowing you to make higher quality goods and sell them for a higher price. Expanding and upgrading your shop is also important – you need to keep it stocked with a large variety of goods your customers want and the fancier the decor, the more customers you’ll get through the doors.
The current Alpha build of Winkeltje features around two hours of gameplay and really impresses with its intuitive UI and fast paced shop management gameplay. You manually control the shopkeeper and move them to whichever area you want them to interact with (whether collecting cash, buying furnishings or stocking displays).
You can take your time to fix up your shop and order your goods at night when it’s closed but when the doors open and the customers flock through the doors it’s chaos, with you running around your various display tables, restocking them and collecting the cash that they throw on the floor (and finding a few seconds to craft stuff now and again). It can get pretty hectic, but with a bit of work you’ll turn your little shop into the medieval equivalent of a high end department store, with high quality furnishings, a wide variety of high quality product and swarms of happy customers coming in and out of the doors.
