Wintertwined is a narrative-driven horror adventure set in an apocalyptic snow-covered world that’s home to grotesque shapeshifting monsters.
Drawing inspiration from Silent Hill and The Thing, in Wintertwined you follow the adventure of a shy teanager called Winter and their parental guardian (Giles) as they try to survive in a frostbitten apocalyptic world. It seems that one day in the middle of Summer it started snowing and never stopped. But snow is the least of your worries – there are worse things out there in the darkness, and you’d better run if they find you!
The Wintertwined demo takes around 15 minutes to play through and delivers a character-focused slow burn narrative that allows you to get to know Winter, Giles and the world they live in before the horror kicks in. It’s a very well written story and it doesn’t take long for you to warm to Winter and Giles. They make a good team, supporting each other emotionally as well as using their unique skills to work together and solve problems.
You’ll be dying for more of Winter and Giles’ story by the end of the demo as it ends on a real cliffhanger. It isn’t due for a full release until next year, but judging by the demo it’ll be worth the wait. It’s got a very intriguing setting, the writing is excellent and it’s got some of the best pixel art visuals you’re likely to see in an RPG Maker game. Highly recommended.
