PS4 and Xbox One owners can now sign up for the Alpha for World of Warships: Legends, the console only adaption of the World of Warships naval MMO.
Currently in development by Wargaming (creators of World of Tanks), World of Warships: Legends promises to be more than just a port of the PC version – with them building the whole thing “pretty much from scratch” to be optimised for consoles, while using some of the resources from the PC version to speed up development. Players will be able to command Cruisers, Destroyers and Battleships in PvE and PvP battles that balance arcade action and realistic physics to allow for a dynamic, competitive and fun naval warfare experience.
World of Warships: Legends features three classes of ships – fast and fragile Destroyers, slow and powerful Battleships and Cruisers that are good all-rounders (the PC version’s Aircraft carriers have been cut from Legends as they are currently undergoing an overhaul). There are a lot of ships to unlock, arranged into seven tiers. You begin on Tier 1 which contains late 19th and early 20th century Cruisers, and during play you’ll work your way up to WWII era ships that are contained in tiers 5 and above.
Battles take place in maps ranging from 18×18 km km to 24×24 km, set in different locations ranging from the frozen Arctic to the tropics of South East Asia. The matches are pretty fast paced, with an upper limit of 15 minutes, but an average time of around 9 minutes.
World of Warships: Legends won’t offer a radical shift in gameplay from the PC original but it will be a more streamlined, easily accessible and console friendly take on Wargaming’s popular naval MMO. Certainly worth checking out if you’re in the mood for sinking some battleships!
