Year In The Trees is a beautiful looking new pixel art survival RPG that blends hand-authored and procedural content as you live out multiple lives and discover the secrets and lore of an enchanted forest.
In Year In The Trees with each new playthrough you journey to an abandoned cabin that belonged to your ancestors, where you attempt to carve a life out for yourself in the wilderness. It features a permadeath system and a lush procedurally generated game world, making playthrough will be different, but you can pass items and upgrades down to future generations.
You only have a short time with each character, but each can learn a lot about the land as they explore, forage, trade and fight. You can choose to specialise in different areas, such as becoming a blacksmith, a farmer or a merchant – with each different style of play teaching you more of the lore and shedding light on the true story of those mysterious woods. There are animals, witches, bandits, fantastic beasts and druidic cult members living in the woods too – some may be friendly, some not, but all will have some part to play in your adventures.
It’s a fantastic looking game, with high quality pixel artwork, a chilled out atmosphere and an intriguing game world that’s full of mysticism and natural beauty. While most survival games are frantic fight for survival, Year In The Trees seems to be more about going with the flow, experiencing the game world and discovering its many secrets.
